About the Area Traditional hilltop villages are only a few kilometres distant with all the usual amenities. The small town of Seissan is under 6 kilometres away by car, has excellent shops, a famous Friday market, and good restaurants. Mirande, 10 kilometres in the other direction is a small Bastide town, a fine medieval Cathedral and beautiful square and a Monday market. Auch, the capital of Gascony, only 15 kilometres distant, is also famous for its fine old buildings and dominant Cathedral. There are two large supermarkets here.
Other facilities,in the area, include horse riding , fishing and tennis, and three good golf courses locally. Plenty of lakes and rivers for boating and sailing.
The countryside is wonderful for walking and biking. You will find information on good long walks (sentiers) at the house.
There are frequent local festivals including the country and western festival in Mirande during July, and the world-renowned Marciac Jazz Festival in August.
The area is also noted for the production of pastel, a dye providing the distinctive blue uniforms of Napoleons Grand Armee. The art of this dyemaking has recently been resurrected locally, and the distinctive blue shutters of Larriberau come from this pastel.
