About the Region
The rolling countryside of Gascony is almost devoid of traffic and the peace and tranquillity of the countryside is a particular draw that has bought our guests back year after year. The area abouds with culture and history. Nearly every town and village started as a Bastide in the 100 Years War, but there is also the Roman Villa at Seviac, the circular fortified village at Fources, and the famous Romanesque church at Peyreusses Grande - among others.

Bridge over the River Gers

Venturing further a field we are almost midway between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, with excellent autoroute access. The Atlantic coast has the elegance of Biarritz and St Jean de Luz, and a popular surfing location at Hossegor.

To the east is Toulouse (90 minutes’ drive) which combines fine old architecture and a modern aerospace industry – an offshoot of which is the Space Visitor Centre. There are well-served airports at both Toulouse and Pau, both about 90 minutes from the house. Within an hour to the south, there is good skiing at a number of resorts, some of which are open until May.
